I have created a .mid file in Ableton Live to use with triggering lights in DMXis.  It is on MIDI channel 16.  When I play it back in LiveTraker, it plays on MIDI Channel 1 - where can I change this?  I am looking in the settings, but not finding it!

Or else, if this is not possible, what program do you recommend to create a MIDI track that contains the channel info?

Thanks!

-David

Hi @david-lsl

actually there is no way to change the midi channel.

does the midifile plays original on channel 16?

if yes, this can be a bug, but this is a too technical issue, so it is better to Wait for an answer by Jens

Unfortunately today's is not available, so will be back tomorrow and will reply to this

Hi David, here is Jens and I'm back from a studio recording day 🙂

it's not possible to route midi channels in livetraker, because midi files have 16 channels, you would need a matrix to change it and to get sure that you don't route two channels to the same output. If it plays on channel 16 then simply change the input channel of your lightening device or create a midi file, which plays on other channels. I just created a midi test file (with logic audio pro) to see, if there is a bug with channel 16, because it wasn't clear for me what you meant, but it plays correctly and I also found a bug regarding to the midi device connection, which will be fixed with the next update 🙂

Best regards

Jens

Hi Jens,

it's definitely a problem in livetraker, as i cab watch the MIDI via midi-ox:

When i output from Ableton, it's on channel 16

When I then open the .mid file in a generic midi editor, it still comes out via channel 16.

When I open the .mid file in livetraker, it comes out channel 1 🙁

The big issue here is that I am using DMXis in this example, and I cannot change the MIDI channel that it is receiving on!

I can make a video later too, if you'd like,to show you the issue.

Thanks!

-David

Here is a video that shows what is going on so that you can troubleshoot further: https://vimeo.com/user42005199/review/397264605/696d874eaf

Hi David,

thank you for your Video demonstration 🙂

You exported your midi track as a "clip", do you have other possibilities to export a real Midifile ?

Your Editor show's not Channel 16 (blue), because your midi channels are from 0-15 !!  so 16 isn't existing. It only says general events!

best regards
Jens

So, for someone who doesn't usually create MIDI files, what is your recommendation of a PC or Mac tool to create these files?  Reaper?

What I would really want to see in a future release is the ability to map my MIDI notes from within of Livetraker.  A lot of my customers are even less familiar with MIDI than I!

Thanks!
